All our icons and grids use isometric projection with a 26.565° angle. This is a 2:1 pixel-ratio graphics, also known as 2.5D isometric graphics.
No. The viewpoint cannot be changed because Icograms uses pre-rendered isometric vector graphics rather than a 3D scene.
Most Icograms icons are vector illustrations drawn in isometric projection. Although they look three-dimensional, they are actually vector graphics and cannot be freely rotated in 3D space. For many objects, front and back view versions are available, and you can also use the Flip tool to simulate rotation. Flat objects, such as symbols, shapes, lines, text, and your own uploaded graphics, can be rotated. For these objects, the Rotate tool is available in the Properties panel.
To rename a design or change its dimensions, click the design name or dimensions in the bottom toolbar, then enter the new name and dimensions.
To set a transparent background, click the color icon next to the design name in the bottom toolbar and choose the transparent (checkerboard) background.
To import a map into Icograms Designer, follow these steps:
- Prepare your map and rotate it so that roads and houses align with vertical and horizontal lines if possible.
- Save the map in PNG, JPG, GIF, or WebP format, keeping it under 2MB (depending on your plan).
- Upload the map to Icograms Designer by selecting the 'Uploads' palette (found under Search), clicking the 'Upload' button, and choosing your file.
- Drag the uploaded map onto the work area and scale it if necessary.
- Click 'Shear Clockwise' or 'Shear Counterclockwise' to achieve a horizontal projection of the map.
Yes. To share a design with another user, both users must be part of the same Team.
In the Icograms Education Edition, Teachers can create a Class and invite Students.
For commercial users, Teams are created by the Icograms team; please contact us and provide the users' email addresses.
Once you're part of a Team, you can copy a design to a shared space, where another user can edit it. Please note that simultaneous editing is not supported.
This means that the same Icograms design is opened in another browser or another tab of the same browser, or is edited by another user. This causes a save conflict.
In Icograms Designer, you can use the following shortcuts:
- Space: Switch between selection and panning mode. Hold Space for panning mode.
- Shift + Mouse Select: Select items in a rectangle.
- Alt + Mouse Drag: Duplicate and drag item(s).
- Ctrl + Mouse Click: Select/unselect a particular item.
- Ctrl + A: Select all items.
- Ctrl + G: Group selected items.
- Ctrl + Shift + G: Ungroup selected item.
- Ctrl + Z: Undo the latest operation. Undo history is limited to 100 actions.
- Ctrl + C: Copy selected elements to the clipboard (can only be pasted within Icograms Designer, not other software).
- Ctrl + V: Paste selected elements from the clipboard (works across different Icograms designs and even between different browsers).
- Del or Backspace: Delete selected item(s).
- Arrows: Move selected item(s) by one point.
- Shift + Arrows: Move selected item(s) by four points.
- Mouse Wheel: Zoom in/out.
- Note: On Mac, use Command key instead of Ctrl.
To disable grid snapping, click the Turn off grid steps icon on the bottom toolbar.

All your designs are automatically saved in My Icograms. To save a design locally, click Export As... in the top toolbar and choose the JSON format.
To avoid losing your work, check the save status in the bottom toolbar and create copies of important versions of your designs.
All changes to your design are saved automatically. However, there is no version history, so we cannot restore unsaved changes. In some cases, we can restore deleted Icograms files.

Third-party software
If you use SVG files as uploads, Adobe Illustrator may not display them properly. This is a known issue with Adobe Illustrator, as it does not support SVG files embedded within SVG files. We recommend using high-dimensional PNG files (2x, 4x, 8x) instead.
Additionally, if you are using Google Fonts, they may not be displayed in Illustrator unless they are installed on your computer.
If you use SVG files as uploads, Inkscape will display them in a rasterized format, which may not be suitable for high-dpi printing. To ensure better quality, we recommend using high-dimensional PNG files (2x, 4x, 8x) instead.
Additionally, if you are using Google Fonts, they may not be shown in Inkscape unless they are installed on your computer.
